MÜNZING CHEMIE GmbH is awarded as Top Innovator
MÜNZING Group
MÜNZING CHEMIE GmbH celebrates its successful participation in the innovation competition "TOP 100". As a result of demonstrating its innovative qualities, the company was awarded the distinction of Top Innovator 2023.
MÜNZING CHEMIE GmbH participated in the innovation competition for the first time in 2023 and is therefore even more pleased to be able to place itself directly among the 100 most innovative German medium-sized companies, among which only a few companies from the chemical industry are represented overall. MÜNZING is a globally active manufacturer of specialty additives headquartered in Abstatt, Baden-Württemberg, and employs around 630 people worldwide. Innovation was already in the blood of the company's founder, who in 1830 was the first person in Germany to succeed in producing sulfuric acid. Today, the family business is in the 6th generation of the Münzing family and the current Managing Director, Dr. Michael Münzing, is committed to this tradition. His credo is "I always want to be at the forefront, to be a pioneer. I'd rather get my fingers burnt and learn from it."
The innovation competition is based on a scientific selection process. On behalf of compamedia, the organizer of the TOP 100 comparison, the innovation researcher Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and his team examined MÜNZING based on more than 100 criteria from five categories: Innovation-promoting top management, innovation climate, innovative processes and organization, external orientation/open innovation, and innovation success. Of particular importance is whether a company's innovations are merely a product of chance or are systematically planned and thus repeatable in the future.
Thanks to the creative freedom for employees, openness to new ideas and moderation of the innovation process by management, the company scores particularly well in the category of Innovation-promoting top management. Worth highlighting here is the integration of sustainability and digitalization, which were also evaluated in this category. MÜNZING attaches great importance to the development of environmentally friendly and resource-saving solutions and to the sustainable and efficient design of production processes, which is optimally supported by advances in digitalization. This is confirmed by the likewise very good rating in the Innovative Processes and Organization category. This is evidence of the company's ability to quickly adapt to changing customer needs and technologies and to optimally track the market and competition through constant monitoring. Here, MÜNZING stands out with above-average ratings in flexibility and agility, as well as short decision-making paths and a clear design of the innovation process.
"We improve our customers' products," is how Managing Director Malte Koffka sums up the company's activities. "Our specialty additives make up only a small fraction of the product formulation but provide the finishing touches in the end application so that the product can fulfill its function optimally." Innovation in terms of customer needs is an important driver of success, which is why MÜNZING maintains close customer relationships.
Nevertheless, participation in the innovation competition also provided information about yet untapped potential, in the exploration of which the company is already investing through its own teams and projects on the topics of innovation and sustainability. This strategy is another element in MÜNZING's almost 200-year company history to continue to be at the forefront and to actively shape the future of the chemical industry.
